National Family History Day to promote discussion of health histories

The US Surgeon General has declared Thanksgiving the first National Family History Day, urging families to discuss health histories when they gather Nov. 25 because the information can help predict risks for diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

To help evaluate that information, Aurora Health Care has developed a comprehensive health risk assessment tool for women that integrates family history and an individual’s health data. Completing the assessment will provide suggestions and answers about a woman’s health care. Everyone who completes the assessment online will receive a summary report. Women who have an Aurora physician can ask that he or she get a copy of the assessment so the patient and physician can work together to decide on the best plan of care.

Filling out Aurora’s Health Risk Assessment can help address issues that may affect the quality and duration of an individual’s life. To complete an Aurora Health Risk Assessment, click here or call the Aurora Women’s Pavilion at 414-329-5618 to receive a copy in the mail.

Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers care at sites in more than 80 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
