American Diabetes Association re-certifies hospital's diabetes education program

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Aurora BayCare Medical Center's diabetes self-management program has been re-certified by the American Diabetes Association.

Certification from the ADA recognizes that the hospital's program meets the national standards for diabetes self-management education, which includes updating techniques, therapies, medications and educational tools on an ongoing basis. Re-certification is good for three years.

Aurora BayCare's diabetes self-management program provides one-on-one and group classes for newly diagnosed patients or those who have had diabetes for a period of time. Self-management training focuses on nutrition, exercise, blood sugar monitoring, medications, emotional adjustments, behavior modification and potential complications.

Aurora BayCare also features the latest technological advances in the field, including a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS), which evaluates a patient's blood glucose trends over a three-day period, and intensive management of insulin pump therapy, the most advanced type of insulin-delivery system available.

Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a 132-bed, full-service tertiary care hospital located at 2845 Greenbrier Road on Green Bay's east side. It opened in September 2001 as a joint effort of Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic.
