GE Healthcare and Aurora Health Care announce strategic alliance

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Pewaukee, Wis., GE Healthcare and Aurora Health Care today announced a new seven-year strategic alliance under which the two organizations will work together in a variety of ways to enhance the quality of health care.

Under terms of the agreement, GE Healthcare will provide Aurora Health Care with clinical breadth and depth in leading-edge technologies and services that will help simplify workflow, enhance diagnostic certainty and improve outcomes.

“Aurora is a nationally recognized leader in improving the quality of health care in eastern Wisconsin,” said Joe Hogan, president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare. “We are proud that Aurora has recognized GE’s breakthrough products and services as important to their mission.”

GE Healthcare and Aurora also will be working together on a variety of clinical and non-clinical quality improvement efforts. For example, GE is a global leader in applying the Six Sigma quality methodology internally and to health care delivery, and GE and Aurora already are working together on improvement projects and on building Aurora’s quality culture.

“We now employ a wide range of quality disciplines in our work on clinical and non-clinical improvement,” said Patrick Falvey, Ph.D., Aurora’s vice president of care management administration. “We intend to work with GE to organize our efforts and focus on a handful of effective methods like Six Sigma.”

The alliance with GE Healthcare will allow Aurora to benefit from GE’s vast database of information on clinical quality, productivity, customer satisfaction and other key measures of success.

“Our people benchmark their work against the very best in the health care industry,” said G. Edwin Howe, president of Aurora Health Care. “GE’s knowledge base will assist us in measuring our progress and help us stay among the nation’s leading health care providers.”

Howe said that improving patient care was the overriding goal of the new strategic alliance agreement with GE. Other goals include lowering Aurora’s operating expenses, capitalizing on advances in medical technology, accelerating the process of acquiring equipment and services, and enhancing the measurement of patient satisfaction and outcomes.

“We are pleased to be working in partnership with a global leader like GE Healthcare,” Howe said. “We look forward to tapping GE’s expertise as we enhance our services in Waukesha County and throughout eastern Wisconsin.”
