Aurora news releases
Aurora Health Care affiliates with PointOneWednesday, July 31, 2002MILWAUKEE, Aurora Health Care has entered into an affiliation agreement in which Aurora has become a part owner of PointOne Systems, LLC, a Milwaukee-based clinical genetic information systems company. "PointOne is rapidly establishing itself as a leader in the application of genetic information to patient care. We see great potential to incorporate this technology into cost-effective patient care," said Donald J. Nestor, Aurora executive vice president.
PointOne, with technical and scientific expertise in managing complex clinical and genetic data, has developed an information system to translate a patient's clinical data and genetic test results into a meaningful summary for the physician. The analysis provides physicians and patients with personalized information regarding an individual's risk of developing a particular disease. If the patient does show increased risk, the system also provides individualized information regarding:
- The effectiveness of various drugs - Optimal preventive strategies - The best treatment options
"Genetic information provides a great opportunity for physicians to further personalize care to the individual patient. This means better methods of treatment earlier," said Nick Turkal, M.D., Aurora's senior clinical vice president for academic and medical affairs.
PointOne's technology includes an advanced security system to help ensure that patient privacy is maintained.
"The human genome project will lead to a massive increase in the complexity of data and information, which will require future health care providers to work daily with highly developed intelligent information systems," said Drew Palin, M.D., chief executive officer of PointOne.
Aurora Health Care is a community-owned Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora has care sites in more than 75 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
