Aurora Lakeland Medical Center's Benefit Ball event slated April 21Tuesday, March 27, 2007
The Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Benefit Committee hosts the 22nd annual Benefit Ball on April 21, 2007, at Geneva National Resort on scenic Lake Como. Dinner, music, silent auctions and dancing will be part of this elegant black-tie event.
Proceeds will go toward updating the cardiac monitoring equipment in the emergency department at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
The Honorary Chairperson for this year's Benefit Ball is Nestor C. Alabarca, M.D., internist, Aurora Health Center in Lake Geneva. Dr. Alabarca has always thought of medicine as the best and noblest way to help people in need. He approaches patient care both as a clinician and educator as he works with patients at Aurora Health Center and Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. He has special interest in pulmonary medicine, pulmonary function testing, fiber optic bronchoscopy and lung biopsy.
A member of the Lake Geneva Rotary Club, Dr. Alabarca was previously honored as Rotarian of the Year. He and his family reside in Lake Geneva.
"Dr. Alabarca personifies the spirit of this award, he has dedicated his life to improving the health and well being of people and families in Walworth County,'' said Marianne Bonifacic, one of the co-chairs of this year's event. "We're blessed to have committed and dedicated clinicians such as Dr. Alabarca in our community.''
The Benefit Ball has played a significant role in a number of projects at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, including the remodeling of the emergency department, creation of the women's center at the hospital, and the addition of valuable clinical equipment in many hospital departments.
As part of the evening, the Margaret Schloemer Humanitarian Award will be presented to Alice Morava, a long time supporter of Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.
"Over the past 20 years, the Benefit Ball and its volunteers have displayed incredible dedication to helping sustain our mission in Walworth County,'' said Laverne Schmidt, director, philanthropy, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.
