Aurora Health Care Named One of the 100 Best Places to Work in Health Care by Modern Healthcare Magazine

Monday, October 27, 2008

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Aurora Health Care has been named 73rd in the list of 100 Best Places to Work by Modern Healthcare magazine. It was the only health care provider in eastern Wisconsin listed.

The program recognizes health care workplaces that enable employees to perform at their optimum level to provide patients with the best possible care and services.

"We are pleased to receive this award because it demonstrates our commitment to our caregivers as well as to our patients," said Laurie Mahoney, senior vice president of Aurora Health Care. "We continuously look for ways to improve the work experience for the people of Aurora. Most importantly, our caregivers cite that commitment as a reason why they like to work for Aurora."

"We have continually strived to become a health care provider that is recognized for working together on behalf of our patients across eastern Wisconsin. Aurora's culture is built around helping caregivers balance work and life responsibilities. That balance is one way to help ensure patients have a care experience that helps to set us apart from other health providers," said Nick Turkal, MD, president and CEO of Aurora Health Care.

Ania Horner, a nurse who works at Aurora Burlington Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Wis., said: "I have young children, and it means so much to me that Aurora offers flexible work schedules. The organization's priorities are very humanistic, with the right values."

"Attracting and retaining a talented and competitive workforce is a critical issue facing health care companies," said Fawn Lopez, publisher of Modern Healthcare.

"Doing so not only helps companies create and sustain a competitive advantage, but more importantly, it helps them significantly improve their bottom lines and profitability. Plus, by recognizing these outstanding employers and sharing the best practices, we hope to help strengthen and improve the overall healthcare workforce," added Lopez.

"Being named one of Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work in Healthcare is a unique and prestigious honor and will have a profound impact on the companies who receive this recognition," said Peter B. Burke, President of Best Companies Group.

How the list was created
Modern Healthcare entered into a partnership with the Best Companies Group, a Harrisburg, Pa.-based firm that conducts regional "best places to work" programs across the country. On behalf of Modern Healthcare, the Best Companies Group conducted two surveys of health care companies that volunteered to participate in the program. The first survey was a questionnaire for a participating employer. The second was a satisfaction survey of a participating employer's employees. Some 238 healthcare companies participated.
