Aurora BayCare Receives Outstanding Achievement Award By American College of SurgeonsFriday, March 27, 2009
Green Bay, Wis. - Aurora BayCare Medical Center recently received an "Outstanding Achievement Award" by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Aurora BayCare is one of two hospitals in Green Bay and one of five hospitals in Wisconsin to obtain this award.
Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A facility receives the award following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which time the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent six areas of cancer program activity (cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement). In addition, the facility receives a compliance rating for the remaining 29 cancer program standards.
Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. Its membership includes Fellows of the American College of Surgeons and representatives of 47 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of cancer care.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a 167-bed, full-service tertiary care hospital located at 2845 Greenbrier Road on Green Bay's east side. It opened in September 2001 as a joint effort of Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
BayCare Clinic is the largest physician-owned specialty-care clinic in Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is comprised of over 100 specialty physicians with expertise in more than 20 specialties. BayCare Clinic physicians have served patients in Green Bay and the surrounding region for more than 25 years.
