Aurora nurse excellence award recipient announced

Catherine DuranElkhorn, Wis. -- Caring, compassion, and a willingness to go beyond the call of duty are cherished attributes in anyone. To help recognize those who embody the spirit of nursing, Aurora's Walworth community recently presented its annual Nurse Excellence Award to Catherine Duran, registered nurse, Aurora Health Center in Lake Geneva.

Nominees are registered nurses and licensed practical nurses serving Walworth County communities in various settings including the hospital, clinic, and home.

This year's other nominees included Barb Carroll, registered nurse, case manager, Aurora Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin; Valentina Gjyzeli, registered nurse, dialysis, Aurora Health Center in Lake Geneva; BJ Koehl, registered nurse, hospice coordinator, Aurora Visiting Nurse Association; Ami Mabie, registered nurse, intensive care unit, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center; Pat Positano, nursing supervisor, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center; Gail Seitz, registered nurse, case manager, Aurora Visiting Nurse Association; Catherine Teska, registered nurse, case manager, Aurora Visiting Nurse Association; and Ann Tomal, registered nurse, supervisor, Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.

"Achieving clinical excellence, improving patient outcomes, and providing patient-centered care is our mission, whether in the clinic, at the hospital bedside, or in the patient's home,'' said Sharon Behrens, registered nurse and director of nursing services at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.

"Catherine, along with her nursing colleagues, live this mission every day. All of our nurses are committed to the overall health and well-being of the communities we serve, no matter where they care for our patients.''
