Annual McGMO Golf Event to Benefit Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Delavan, Wis. -- Improving the health and well-being of local cancer patients is the goal behind the annual McGMO Golfing for Cancer Care event. The 12th annual event will be held Friday, July 31, at Delbrook Golf Course, 700 S. 2nd St., Delavan. Check in time is 11 a.m.

Proceeds from the even benefit the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic located within Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. The McGMO was established in 1998 in loving memory of Dean McGregor, Ivan Grover, Calvin Monroe, who have lost their battle with cancer and Kim O'Keefe, a courageous cancer survivor.

Last year, the event raised more than $42,000 and since its inception, the McGMO has raised over $250,000 to enhance patient services, acquire equipment, and invest in new technology. Proceeds from this year's event will be used to develop and fund a cancer care navigator position that will serve cancer patients at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.

Michelle Weber, philanthropy officer, Aurora Health Care, said the efforts of the McGMO founders and the volunteers who are dedicated to helping anyone touched by cancer is awesome.

"For those involved in the McGMO, this is a personal mission,'' she said. "Together, we remain committed to providing vital cancer services close to home. People like Mike and Lori Grover and Kim O'Keefe understand the significance of having quality cancer services easily accessible in the community.''
A donation of $100 per person includes 18 holes of golf played scramble style, prizes, lunch, dinner, and an auction with sports memorabilia, vacations, skybox tickets to Miller Park and much more.
