Aurora Health Care kicks off a new effort to raise breast cancer awarenessFriday, September 18, 2009
Time to turn the town pink!
Elm Grove, Wis. — The campaign for breast cancer awareness is bringing pink to your front door.
On Saturday, September 19th at 10 a.m., Aurora Health Care will join with Ace Hardware, the American Cancer Society and local radio stations to kick-off selling pink porch light bulbs through the month of October. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Ace Hardware located at 15360 Watertown Plank Road in Elm Grove.
This unique method to bring a neighborhood identity to breast cancer awareness will be available at Ace Hardware stores throughout southeast Wisconsin. The pink bulbs will have a retail price of $5 and the profits will benefit local women through the Aurora Foundation’s Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Fund.
“Aurora Health Care treats more newly diagnosed cancer patients than any other health care provider in the state,” says Sue Ela, R.N., chief operating officer for Aurora Health Care. “We are pleased to be participating in the pink porch light program knowing that these efforts will help more women have a fighting chance against this disease.”
The sale of pink light bulbs is expected to generate over $80,000 for the fight against breast cancer. These funds will be used to increase awareness and prevention of this disease in southeast Wisconsin.
The kick-off event will offer the opportunity to interview executives from Aurora, the American Cancer Society and Ace Hardware.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve the quality of care. Aurora provides care at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin and Illinois.
