Extraordinary nurse recognized at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County

Thursday, July 08, 2010

Two Rivers, Wis. – Aurora Medical Center’s Gail Mellinger, RN is being honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The Award, presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the extraordinary efforts nurses perform every day.

Mellinger works as a case manager at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County. Her department supervisor nominated her for the award after receiving the following compliment from a patient’s mother regarding Mellinger’s care:

“Gail has been through many crises with my family and I have never dealt with a nurse who has more compassion and picks the family up when they look very bleak. She just cares above and beyond for people,” said the patient’s mother. “Gail has been so caring to my daughter through all her hospital visits. We will be grateful for her forever; she truly is an outstanding role model!”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
