Aurora BayCare Medical Center's administrator named state's Young Healthcare Executive of the YearMonday, October 13, 2003
Aurora BayCare Medical Center Administrator Linda Smith has been named the 2003 Young Healthcare Executive by the American College of Healthcare Executives Wisconsin Regent’s Council.
The award is presented annually to an exceptional healthcare executive in the state who is less than 45 years old. Smith was selected based on demonstrated leadership, administrative ability, motivation, attitude, innovation and creativity. The award will be presented September 26 at the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s annual convention at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva.
Smith has truly been instrumental in the creation and rise of Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay since coming to Wisconsin from Los Angeles two years ago. Under her leadership, the hospital has successfully recruited and hired a staff of more than 1,300 while maintaining less than 3 percent vacancy and 6 percent turnover, both better than statewide averages. She has carefully balanced the needs of the hospital’s physician co-owners and those of Aurora Health Care while maintaining the highest quality of care.
The nomination specifically mentioned Smith’s efforts in employee communication, high patient satisfaction scores and community outreach.
Smith joined Aurora BayCare Medical Center in June 2001. She was previously Deputy Executive Director of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital at LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a 126-bed, full-service tertiary care hospital located at 2845 Greenbrier Road on Green Bay’s east side. It opened in September 2001 as a joint effort of Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic. The two organizations also are partners in the new Aurora BayCare Health Center, which opened in fall 2002 adjacent to the BayCare Surgery Center near the Highway 41/West Mason Street exit on Green Bay’s west side.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora has care sites in 75 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
BayCare Clinic comprises more than 75 physicians representing 18 medical and surgical specialties. As northeastern Wisconsin’s largest independent physician-owned organization, BayCare is dedicated to providing patient choice and high quality care.
