Statement of Aurora Health Care

Over the past several days, there have been inaccurate reports in local and national media about an incident involving Trevor Hall, a teen who rescued a child from near-drowning and whose family identified him as being treated at our Kenosha hospital. The reports inaccurately stated that Aurora Health Care sent Trevor a bill for $2,000. Aurora never sent Trevor a bill. In fact, we reached out to his guardian to advise that we would not send a bill until insurance details were worked out.

Today, we communicated to Trevor’s family our decision not to charge him for the emergency room and physician charges related to the incident. We made this decision in the interest of fairness and based on Trevor’s personal circumstances.

As part of our normal process – and as is the case here -- we work with patients and families to understand their situation and find an equitable solution that meets their needs. There are programs – at Aurora and through the government -- to help patients with their care. We believe this situation qualifies for part of the approximate $250 million of uncompensated care that Aurora Health Care provides each year.
