Aurora Health Center in Marinette to offer annual Diabetes Day Fair

Wednesday, November 03, 2010

Marinette, Wis. – In an effort to create awareness during American Diabetes Month and provide education about diabetes, Aurora Health Center in Marinette is sponsoring its annual Diabetes Day Fair, including a diabetes health fair and speaker, on Tuesday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mayank Arora, M.D., of Aurora Health Care, will give a presentation on diabetes from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. He will discuss the types of diabetes, diagnosing criteria, signs and symptoms of diabetes, and potential complications of diabetes, as well as answer any questions individuals may have.

The annual Diabetes Day Fair will include educational vendors, cholesterol screenings, A1C screenings (average blood sugar over the last three months) and random blood glucose tests.

November is American Diabetes Month, which provides the opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and its possible serious complications. Nearly 24 million people in the United States are living with diabetes, and an additional 57 million Americans are at risk for being diagnosed with diabetes. If current trends continue, one out of every three children born today will face a future with diabetes.

Registered Dietitian Nola Hardy and Certified Diabetes Educator Rebecca Delain, R.N., will be at the event to answer any questions individuals may have.

This event is free and open to the public; however the cholesterol and A1C screenings will be available for a small fee. The cost of a cholesterol screening will be $5 and an A1C screening will be $8. To schedule a screening appointment, or for more information about this event, please call Aurora Health Center in Marinette at 715-732-8000.
