Aurora Lakeland Medical Center's Benefit Ball Raises $85,000

Monday, May 23, 2011

ELKHORN, Wis., May 20, 2011 — Those who attended the 26th annual Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Benefit Ball helped to raise $85,000 for their local hospital. The proceeds from this year's event, held on May 14, at Geneva National Resort, will enable Aurora Lakeland Medical Center to expand cardiac telemonitoring services.

"We had a wonderful turnout for this year’s Benefit Ball with 230 people attending," said Alice Morava, leadership chair for the event. "Their generosity reflects the tremendous support our community has for a hospital that has long been an important asset for this area."

"Over the years, our hospital has continually looked at ways to better serve the community and we are pleased that our event has played a role in generating the extra funds to bring higher levels of care to so many of our friends, family members and neighbors," Morava added. "We would not have had this kind of success without the wonderful group of individuals who I had the pleasure of working with to plan this year's Benefit Ball."

In addition to Morava, the Benefit Ball Committee included co-chairs Marianne Bonifacic and Maureen Berkowitz along with Linda Choyce, Janet Giovannetti, Lori Grover, Kathy Hartman, Irene Humphrey, Terri Jambor, Jennifer Jones, Helen Meier, Genna Monticello, Morava, Mary Ovitz, Kathleen Skowlund, Cathy Slovick, Rita Stensland, Donna Surinak, Michelle Weber and Wendy Weiner.

The Honorary Chairperson for this year's Benefit Ball was Jeffery Scherer, MD., who was recognized for dedicating his career to helping the community.

As part of the evening, the Margaret Schloemer Humanitarian Award was presented to Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe, and Kim O'Keefe, founders of the McGMO Golf Outing that annually raises funds for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland.

The Benefit Ball has played a significant role in a number of projects at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, including the Obstetrics and Women's Health Unit renovation, creation of the women's center at the hospital, and the addition of valuable clinical equipment in many hospital departments.
