Annual McGMO golf event benefits Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical CenterTuesday, June 14, 2011
Delavan, Wis., — The 14th annual McGMO Golfing for Cancer Care is scheduled for Friday, July 29, at Delbrook Golf Course, 700 S. 2nd St., Delavan. Proceeds from the event will support the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.
The McGMO golf outing was established in 1998 in memory of Dean McGregor, Ivan Grover, Calvin Monroe, who died from cancer and Kim O’Keefe, a cancer survivor. The event raises funds to benefit cancer patients throughout Walworth County and surrounding communities by enhancing patient services, acquiring equipment, and investing in new technology at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.
“Without this funding, someone from the area struggling with cancer would have to travel a great distance to receive treatment,” said Mike Grover, one of the founding McGMO members. “The Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland gives patients the opportunity to be close to home, close to family and close to friends at a crucial time in their lives.”
Last year, the event raised more than $46,000 and received almost $54,000 in a matching grant from Vince Lombardi Charitable Funds. The money supported cancer services at Aurora Lakeland’s Lombardi Cancer Clinic. Since its inception, the McGMO has raised nearly $405,000 for local cancer services.
“This is an event that reflects the longstanding partnerships we have enjoyed with so many in our community,” said Michelle Weber, philanthropy officer, Aurora Health Care. “The passion of McGMO founders Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe and Kim O'Keefe has helped the event to grow every year and enable us to touch so many more individuals who are undergoing cancer treatment at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.”
That partnership was recently recognized when the founders of the McGMO received the Margaret Schloemer Humanitarian Award at the 26th annual Benefit Ball, a fundraising event for Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. The award reflects the McGMO founders’ dedication to Aurora and support for cancer patients in their community.
The $100 a person registration fee for this year’s event includes lunch, 18-hole golf scramble, awards reception, dinner, silent and live auctions, and cash raffle. For more information or to register online, please log onto www.mcgmo.com.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available at a variety of levels, ranging from $100 to $3,000. All sponsors and auction item donors will have their names listed prominently at the clubhouse.
