Aurora BayCare is first in state to receive American Heart Association accreditation for acute cardiac careTuesday, September 03, 2013
Green Bay, Wis. - Aurora BayCare Medical Center is the first hospital in Wisconsin to receive the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation.
The accreditation program — sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care —recognizes centers that meet or exceed quality of care measures for people experiencing the most severe type of heart attack, ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), in which blood flow is completely blocked to a portion of the heart.
“We are extremely proud to be the first hospital in Wisconsin to receive this accreditation,” said Dr. Richard Ludgin, Chief Medical Officer for Aurora BayCare Medical Center. “It is wonderful news for our community as it validates the high-quality, advanced care to which patients have access at Aurora BayCare’s Heart, Lung & Vascular Center.”
Aurora BayCare underwent numerous on-site reviews by accreditation specialists from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.
Research has shown that handling Heart, Lung & Vascular together creates a better, less confusing, level of care. By being the first in the area to create an integrated approach to heart, lung & vascular care, Aurora BayCare makes it less complicated for our patients to receive excellent heart care.
Thomson Reuters and Truven Health have recognized the Heart, Lung & Vascular Center at Aurora BayCare several times as a Top 50 and Top 100 heart hospital.
Through its accreditation program, the American Heart Association hopes to significantly reduce cardiac death by teaching the public to recognize and react to early symptoms of a heart attack, reduce the time it takes to receive lifesaving treatment and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment administered.
